Advantage Acre uses data from the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service to display the previous cropping history for a field. In additional to being able to view cropping history for a field in Advantage Acre, users can go to the CropScape website at https://nassgeodata.gmu.edu/CropScape/.
How to use the Crop History Data in Advantage Acre
When users create a field, create the field and then click on 'Crop History'. You will not be able to select the 'Crop History' button until after you create the field boundary.
The Crop History will show the previous crop grown for the past five years along with trying to predict the crop for the upcoming cropping season based on the pattern of crops grown the past 10 years. If more than one crop was grown in a field for any given year, Advantage Acre will display the crop that was grown in the greatest amount in the field.
The Crop History data will update when the USDA releases the CropScape data every year. This is typically towards the middle of February most years.
If the cropping history is incorrect for a previous year or upcoming year, users can change/update the crop. Make sure to save the change before you exit the tool.
The cropping history will only show crops that a user has under management in the Crop Library. By default, every account has corn, soybeans, alfalfa and sorghum 'Under Management'. User can search for additional crops and add them to the library. The new crops 'Under Management' will then show in the crop history if they are in the CropScape data.
After the field is created, users can also update the crop history
Starting in August 2019 Advantage Acre is going 'yearless'. With the 'yearless' update, users will also be able to access and update the crop history when they create a seed plan. From 'Field Records' create a new Planting record or edit a previously created record. In the first seed plan modal screen is the same crop history button when editing the field. Click on the button to view and update the crop history.
